I’m a dancing sculptor drawing gestures from my sculptures, dancing my drawings, and sculpting my dances.
Since graduating from Art school in 1990 I have travelled from Fine Art to Multimedia, through teaching and now back to Fine Art and making sculpture again.
At first I worked as a sculptors assistant for Projects Environment in Manchester. I carved stone, wove willow and facilitated workshops on a range of projects.
I moved to London in ‘94 and had a residency at the Florence Trust Studios for two years, and there I made installations from various found materials and sculptures from car innertubes.
I started using computers to make drawings and collages, which led to work on a variety of Multimedia projects and I taught on the Multimedia Design degree course at Southampton Institute (‘98 - ‘01) and on Multimedia courses at Isleworth Further Education College (‘01 - ‘03) while I was studying for my Digital Moving Image MA.
This time of working with Multimedia also marked the time when I started dancing the 5 Rhythms, which has been a profoundly transformative force in my life. Over the years I have become committed to the 5Rhythms practice and I have recently been accepted onto the teacher-training course, when I shall be apprenticed to Gabrielle Roth.
